The promise of reliable power is reason enough to get a standby generator system. Deciding to get a generator is the easy part. Picking the right company to do the job is where things get complicated. Just ask Barbara Thibodeaux.
“I talked to a couple people and got an estimate from another company,” Barbara says. “I planned on getting a generator that came in a package. But, decided to shop it.”
Barbara quickly discovered no two companies made the same recommendations. Some included upgrading the gas service, some didn’t. Some made appointments, but failed to show up. Worst of all, none bothered to tell her there is a solution that manages power according to her need. Then she called Generator Power Systems and spoke with Yvonne Fish.
“Yvonne took time to explain the process of getting a standby generator. Right off that bat she told me the gas company would need to change the meter,” Barbara remembers. “I felt like Generator Power Systems would do a quality job.”
Generator Power Systems’ Jim Fish, a Master Electrician, personally conducted the site survey. Capacity and cost are a tender balance; what can you afford, what do you need. Jim took time to explore Barbara’s needs and explain potential solutions.
Despite having spoken with several companies, Barbara didn’t hear about the Load Shed Transfer Switch until she spoke with Generator Power Systems. This specially designed transfer switch prioritizes what circuits will be powered by the generator during a power outage.
“It all came down to dollars and cents,” Barbara says. “Once installed, my generator will run most everything I need. If both A/Cs are running and I decide to run the stove or oven, the system will kick off one of the A/C’s.”
It took Barbara about three months to do her homework, find Generator Power Systems and begin the installation process for her Generac natural gas standby generator. “You have to be very careful,” Barbara said. “And believe me, I am.”
